The story
A metal cylinder comes down in the sand pits at Horsell, the lid starts to turn from the inside, and the people walking out to look at it still think it is a Sunday attraction. Then come the Heat-Ray, the machines on three legs and the Black Smoke.
Same method and level as the other three readers, with a new setting and new words. Illustrated with forty drawings by Henrique Alvim Corrêa, Brussels, 1906, the only illustrated edition Wells approved.
